Business.gov, (http://www.business.gov/) is the official business link to the U.S. Government, and is managed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in a conjunction with 21 other federal agencies. This site currently has tabs that can take the SMB (Small Medium Business) to information on taxes, human resources and other featured topics. The featured topics tab has information on business areas, industries and audiences that are useful for the business owner.
Business Search Example
Recently I needed to find some information on food labeling and was able to find a fact sheet on food labeling by clicking on the food and beverage industry link, then following it to labeling and packaging. This site is powerful when you want to have one entry into the federal government. In addition the site has a beta link titled Permit Me that lets a business owner know what permits might be required for certain business segments (contractor, electrician, child care, etc)within a state and where to go to get the permits and licenses.
General Search Example
I used the State pull down menu to find some information on property records and motor vehicles for one county and state. It was easy and quick to find the information I needed.
This site is a good site to bookmark and use when you have a government question whether it is on the Federal, State or Local level. This is one instance where our tax dollars have been put to good use for business owners and individuals.
