Viewing Operating Room Procedures

When surgery is looming on the horizon for your employees, you or your loved ones it can be a scary time and advanced knowledge can help alleviate some of the uncertainties. ORlive (http://www.or-live.com/index.cfm) has “The Vision of Improving Health” and is a website where you can view many surgical procedures that were performed in an operating room to gain some understanding of the procedure.

If you go to ORlive a few of the operating room webcasts are available yet with quick free registration much more is accessible. I viewed the computer-assisted total knee replacement and found it to be comprehensive. They have webcasts categorized by specialty or by institution. The institution filter is helpful if you are looking for a place to have surgery or if a hospital you have already selected shows the procedure. The specialty feature helps find information on a specific procedure quickly.

Additionally, ORlive has podcasts on surgery procedures that are downloadable. I matched up my computer-assisted total knee replacement video with a podcast on the state-of-the-Art Knee Replacement Surgery. Lastly, some forums are available as well for certain procedures. Currently, the content in the forums area is not as comprehensive as the webcasts and podcasts. If you want some additional information with some of if visually presented on what your employee, you or your family might be facing during surgery this is a good sight to bookmark,

I am in pretty good shape these days and am fortune that I don’t have any surgical needs. After June, 2008 I hope to be able to say the same as I am racing across America on my bike with a four women team (www.coloradoflash2008.com). We will leave Oceanside, CA on June 11, 2008 and hope to be in Annapolis, MD June 19th at the latest. With this task at hand in June, I will be taking a month off from my newsletter and want to wish you a happy spring and summer to come. Thanks for you interest in my newsletter.
